The original Bose 501 dates from 1970 and was the first model to be introduced by the company after its very successful 901, which had established the Bose Direct/Reflecting principle as a force to be reckoned with. Though it was a Direct/ Reflecting model as well, the 501 is radically different from the 901 in some important particulars. Whereas the 901's multiple drivers all are identical full - range devices, the 501 has always been a two-way system.
